GCSE & A-Level Tutoring — Metacognition-Based Learning
Smarter Thinking. Stronger Results.
We do not just teach the content. We teach students how to learn it.
OakStone Academy helps GCSE and A-Level students unlock their potential through metacognition - the science of how your brain absorbs, retains, and applies knowledge under exam pressure.

Where Teaching Meets the Science of Learning
At OakStone Academy, we believe the biggest obstacle to exam success is not a lack of effort — it is a lack of the right strategy.
Most students work hard. They re-read notes, highlight textbooks, and spend hours at their desks. Yet the results do not always reflect the effort. That is because traditional revision habits often work against how the brain actually learns.
We specialise in metacognitive learning — teaching students to think about how they think. This evidence-based approach transforms not just grades, but the entire experience of studying. Students become more confident, more independent, and better prepared for everything that follows.

Why Metacognition?
Most students revise hard but use strategies that work against how the brain actually learns. Metacognition fixes that - and it is the foundation of everything we do at OakStone.
- Backed by educational research
- Teaches students how to learn, not just what to learn
- Builds confidence and independence
- Results that go beyond exam grades

My daughter went from a Grade 5 to a Grade 8 in with OakStone, which I still can’t quite believe. The biggest change though is how she approaches her work, she actually sits down and gets how to revise. She enjoys it, which I never thought I’d hear. Really pleased with how things have gone.

My son is a practical learner school didn’t seem to get it, so we were worried about grades. After support from OakStone, he went from barely scraping a 3 to a solid 5! The tutors really understood how he works best and made revision practical and manageable. Couldn’t recommend them enough.

My daughter has always loved English but wanted the guidance to hit top A-level grades. OakStone has been amazing — the tutors are supportive, know exactly what to focus on, and really help her structure her work. She’s more motivated than ever, and her progress is clear every week.
